A BRACKNELL teenager enjoyed the trip of a lifetime at this year's Monaco Grand Prix as a break from his aggressive treatment for a brain tumour.

Liam Stevens was whisked away to Monaco to enjoy the glamorous Formula One event by Starlight Children's Foundation, a UK charity fulfilling the wishes of children with serious and terminal illnesses.

The 15-year-old met his hero Lewis Hamilton during the trip at the end of May and spent time with the four other Starlight wish youngsters.

He was diagnosed with a brain tumour aged just 13 and is currently waiting to travel to America for specialist Proton Beam therapy after chemotherapy and other drugs did nothing to reduce the size of his tumour.

Liam, awarded the Child of Courage Pride of Bracknell award in 2015, travelled with his mum Mandy Sharpe.

She said: "The whole experience was unbelievable from start to finish. Having the opportunity to meet and make friends with the other Starlight children really made Liam feel even more positive in himself and meeting Lewis Hamilton and seeing him win really was a dream come true.

"The trip gave Liam the chance to forget about everything and it has given us both amazing memories that we’ll never forget."

He battled through two years of intense chemotherapy before embarking on the trip, and friends are currently fundraising to support the family during his upcoming ten-weeks of treatment in Oklahoma which he was referred to by the NHS.

Although the NHS will fund his treatment and accommodation, the family will have to pay for some basic living expenses such as food and travelling in America themselves.
