HUNDREDS took to the streets of Bracknell in the town's annual half-marathon last Sunday with the borough mayor flying the flag for her charity of the year, Make-a-Wish.

Starting and ending in the grounds of South Hill Park, runners pounded the 13.1 mile route around the town's footpaths and cycleways on Sunday, May 8, battling through the heat of the UK's long-awaited summer.

The Make-a-Wish Foundation, Bracknell Forest mayor Cllr Dee Hamilton's chosen charity for the year, was the official partner charity for the event, but plenty of other good causes had keen runners out fundraising too.

Cllr Iain McCracken, executive member for culture, corporate services and public protection at Bracknell Forest Council said: “The 32nd Bracknell Half Marathon was another fantastic success on Sunday with more than 800 runners taking part.

"I ran in the first race and know how testing the route can be at times, but the race creates a wonderful atmosphere and camaraderie. It is a testament to everyone involved and remains one of our highest profile community events. Well done to all who took part and the event organisers, you should all be very proud."

Three runners from Bracknell Home Start raised more than £1,500 for the charity which is currently facing a 50 per cent cut in its annual budget to help support families in the borough.
