Penguins made Bracknell's Princess Square their home during the day of free entertainment organised by the regeneration partnership Sunday, November 29.
Despite there being no room for Bracknell's annual fireworks organisers say it was a 'fantastic' turnout in the centre.
Bracknell's lights were switched on with a little help from Pingu and competition winners Daisy Clarke, five, and sister Molly aged 10.
Daisy was nominated to join the borough mayor and turn on the lights by her mum Nicola who said she was a brilliant help to the family while older sibling Molly battled bone cancer.
Gemma Tizzard, marketing executive for BRP and organiser of the event, said: "It was a fantastic day and we were delighted to see so many people come in to the town centre to enjoy the events and support their town centre. With no space for fireworks or a celebrity this year we knew things would be a bit different, but people still came out and enjoyed the event, which is great. Daisy and Molly were brilliant and they did a fantastic job kicking off Christmas."
Earlier in the day people had the chance to visit Humboldt penguins outside Princess Square, meet Pingu and decorate ceramic penguin money boxes in Santa’s Workshop.
