ONE of Bracknell's oldest buildings is set to receive a major refurbishment amid promises it will be add 'something different' to the town.

The Bracknell Regeneration Partnership have submitted plans to refurbish and extend The Bull pub, parts of which date back to the 1400s, and turn it in into a new 'individual' restaurant to fit with new town centre, The Lexicon Bracknell.

Significant work is needed to bring the building up to scratch according to the developers who say they have held extensive discussions with Bracknell Forest Council's heritage and planning officers to develop the plans for the pub, made a listed building in 1972.

Simon Russian, development manager for the Bracknell Regeneration Partnership, said: "The Bull provides a key link from the new leisure and restaurant street to the High Street. The comprehensive refurbishment and extension of this building will provide something different for the regeneration of the Town Centre.

"We expect that, if approved, this will also provide a slightly different dining offer from the exciting restaurants that have already been revealed.

"We hope to make some further announcements on this in the first half of 2016."

Developers have assured residents and town centre shoppers the existing building will be 'considerately refurbished' with a new 3,000 sq ft modern timber framed extension to the back, but also say the new building will feature a modern twist.

Cllr Marc Brunel-Walker, executive member for economic development and regeneration, said: "The Bull is a landmark of Bracknell town centre and is a celebrated part of the borough’s heritage. I’m pleased that designs to sympathetically refurbish the building have been submitted for planning permission.

"The refurbishment will, subject to approval, ensure this historic building continues to be a significant part of The Lexicon and the town’s future."
