A POOL party to say 'goodbye for now' will be held before Coral Reef Waterworld closes for a year-long revamp.

The popular attraction will close in January 2016 for a £11.5m facelift and a VIP pool party is planned as a thank you to everyone who has supported the water park since it opened 26 years ago.

The 12 month closure will allow wider flumes to be built, the creaking roof replaced and a full refurbishment of the inside.

There will also be five new flume rides including two, the Super Crater and Crazy Cones, which will be the first of their kind in the south east when the attraction reopens in 2017.

Cllr Iain McCracken, the council’s executive member for culture, corporate services and public protection, said: "There’s so much to look forward to at Coral Reef. The iconic rides will be a huge draw to residents and tourists for many years to come.

"In the meantime, don’t forget Coral Reef is still very much open and waiting to welcome you. There’s a full programme throughout December and the holiday period, as well as the opportunity while you’re there to enter the prize draw for a chance to be at our fantastic pool party."

Free tickets to January's event before Coral Reef closes are up for grabs for 125 lucky families.
