FIRE fighters used a sledgehammer to smash down the front door of a home after a fire broke out on the ground floor.
Crews from Wokingham Road, Caversham and Whitley Wood fire stations scrambled to Radnor Road, just one mile from the Wokingham Road station at 11am.
Crew manager David Grayson said: "We were called at 11:02 to a fire in a ground floor utility room.
"We gained entry through the front door using a sledgehammer. Six fire fighters in breathing apparatus used three hose reels to extinguish the fire."
No one was in the property when it caught fire. The crews spent two hours at the scene.
Catherine Morrow, a spokeswoman for South Central Ambulance Trust said: "We were called at 11:14 to reports of a house fire on Radnor Road. We sent an ambulance crew and an ambulance officer to the scene."
Nobody was taken to hospital.
