More than three quarters of people are planning a holiday within the UK this year, a new study has shown.
Some 77% of Britons have already been on a so-called staycation or are planning to take one, according to a Barclays Business poll of 2,000 adults.
The financial services provider said its research suggests this is a huge boost for small and medium businesses in the accommodation and food sector.
It found that in 2014 turnover for these businesses rose 11% from the previous year, which is the largest annual increase since 2006.
Adam Rowse, head of business banking at Barclays, said: " With this weekend the last bank holiday getaway of the year it's great to see a boom in UK staycationers.
"The staycation economy is a huge driver for businesses across the UK and with £22.5 billion spent on average every year, this presents business owners and the tourism industry with an opportunity to plan ahead to make the most of the rise in domestic tourism."
