An unexploded bomb has been uncovered by construction workers in Wokingham.

Thames Valley Police have confirmed that staff working on a development in Plough Lane have been evacuated from the site after the discovery at around 11.30am.

Police have placed a cordon in Plough Lane between Buttercup Close and Bean Oak Road and 15 homes in the area have been evacuated.

A police spokeswoman confirmed that what has been uncovered looks like historic ammunition, potentially an unexploded bomb.

An Army bomb disposal unit has been called to the scene and the public are being prevented from getting close to the scene.

Local resident Jenifer Hammond, who is looking after a friend's children in Plough Lane opposite the bomb site, spoke to our reporter Alex Drury who is at the scene.

She said: "We think it is a World War Two device that is unexploded, we were evacuated for about an hour and we went to the park and we were allowed back at about 2pm."

The bomb disposal team left the scene at 3.45pm.
