The nervous wait is finally over and pupils across Berkshire are celebrating after getting outstanding A level results that will see them packed off to universities up and down the length and breadth of the country.

Bracknell & Wokingham College.

The college celebrated a 100-per-cent pass rate for the sixth year running. Seventy-two per cent of pupils achieved A*-C grades, up from 65 per cent last year, and 34 per cent gained A*-B grades.

Nearly 20 per cent of Maths and Further Maths students achieved an A* and nearly 60 per cent gained a Grade B or higher. In Biology, 80 per cent of students gained a B or above, along with 60 per cent in Geography. 

Bracknell News:

Tom Blake achieved a B in Maths, B in Geography and a C in Physics, while Kerry Nicholas, who achieved a B in History and C grades in Politics and Maths, will now study Events Management at Cardiff Metropolitan University.

Ginette Cox, head of A Levels, GCSEs and Creative Arts, said: “Yet again, our A Level students have done us proud by producing an excellent set of results. This is testament to their hard work and the tireless efforts of teachers to go beyond standard class-time to provide as many revision sessions as possible.

“It was great to see students studying together outside of class or sitting with teachers when additional help was requested. They have now been presented with terrific results – some students achieving outstanding grades of 2 or 3 A*s.

“We aim to add value to every student that walks through our door so that when they leave they are ready for whatever they set their sights on, be it university or employment. We can help make that happen.

“We are delighted with the results and celebrate another excellent year for the college and our students who can now look forward to what comes next, be that university or the world of work.”

 

The Brakenhale School.

The school's overall pass rate between A*-E grades was 95 per cent, 60 per cent of pupils achieved A*-C grades and 43 per cent received A*-B. 

The school enjoyed a three-per-cent increase in their proportion of A grades with a distinction grade being obtained in 60 per cent of all vocational qualifications. There was also an increase at the top end of vocational results by four per cent.

Jake Clothier achieved an A* in Maths and an A in Further Maths, and will go on to study Maths and Philosophy at his chosen Russell Group University. 

Ebenezer Opoku-Ware achieved Distinction* in all three of his BTECs in Law, Business Studies and ICT. 

Headteacher Jane Coley said: "This September sees the opening of a £1million brand new extension to the sixth-form block. Along with the appointment of 14 new excellent teachers, many from outstanding schools, we have no doubt that post-16 results will continue to rapidly and significantly improve across the next academic year. Thank you to staff, students and parents who have supported us throughout this last academic year. 

"Without their time and effort such results would not be possible.’

 

Easthampstead Park Community School.

Out of the 42 students entered there was a 99-per-cent pass rate. A total of 70 per cent achieved A*-C grades and 48 per cent gained A*-B.

One hundred per cent of pupils of performing arts, sport studies and music performance achieved a distinction pass rate. A hundred per cent of Further Maths students achieved A*-B and 80 per cent of  English Literature students achieved A*-B.

The school's top students include Ryan Houston, who gained an A* in English Language, an A in English Literature and an A in History, and will be going on to study at Warwick University. 

Michael Palterman achieved an A* in Maths, an A in Further Maths. a B in Physics and a C in Chemistry and is going on to study Maths at the University of Surrey. 

 

Edgbarrow School.

The school had a 100-per-cent pass rate with 90 per cent of pupils achieving A*-C and 65 per cent gaining A*-B grades.

Head teacher Robert Elsey said: "We would like to congratulate our students for all their hard work and are very grateful to families for all their magnificent support, and to staff for their superb commitment, which helped to make these results so pleasing. 

"It’s a massive success that made all the effort worthwhile. A very pleasing number of our students have places at highly selective universities, such as Oxford, Warwick, Imperial, LSE, Bath, Bristol, Exeter and Birmingham, for example, and we are thrilled for all of them. 

"Other successful students have secured very good jobs and higher apprenticeships, where they will flourish. 

"Congratulations to all our students, whichever route they eventually choose. We shall miss all of these wonderful young people and we wish them well."

Top pupils include Jess Bollands who gained three As, and Alex Wilson, who achieved two A*s and an A and are both going to Oxford. Emily Miles, who got three As, is going to study medicine at Imperial College. Tom Cope, who achieved an A* and two As, will be studying at LSE next year, while Charlie Goswell will be studying Maths at Warwick after gaining two A*s and two As. 

 

Garth Hill College.

The college enjoyed a 100-per-cent pass rate, with 67 per cent of students gaining A*-C grades and 34 per cent achieving A*-B. The pass rate for Level 2 vocational qualifications was 75 per cent. 

Bracknell News:

Dan Mcnab, 17, Max Ranger, 17, Andrew Jones, 17, and Nathan Wyles, 17, all pleased with their AS results and will continue to study at Garth Hill College on Bull Lane.

Principal Keith Grainger said: "Well done to Lily Dear, who attained an A* grade in Sociology and B grades in Product Design and Psychology. She will take a gap year before studying a degree course.

"Well done to Kat Imprixi, who attained an A grade in Mathematics, an A grade in Greek and a B grade in Further Mathematics. She will study a course in Mathematics at Exeter University.

"Well done to Claudia Prentice, who attained an A grade in History and B grades in English Literature and Psychology, and will study a course in English at Exeter University and to Elijah Chisala, who attained an A grade in Mathematics and B grades in Biology and Chemistry. He will take a gap year before studying a course in Medicine."

Mr Grainger added: "We are delighted with the A2 Level results, and especially the 100-per-cent pass rate. It is the third time in four years that this has been achieved. 

"There has also been an increase in the number of passes at A*-C and this is great news. I am delighted for our students, staff and parents. It is a strong indication of the high quality of education provided in the sixth form at Garth Hill College. Congratulations to everyone involved with this success.

"We wish all of year 13 the very best for the next stage of their lives."

 

Ranelagh School.

The school achieved a 99-per-cent pass rate, 75 per cent of pupils achieved A*-C and 45 per cent gained A*-B. The pass rate for Level 3 vocational qualifications was 100 per cent. 

Bracknell News:

Alistair Shields, 18, happy with an A* and two As, and will study Politics and International Relations at Bath University in a year's time and Hannah Fairhead, 18, achieving two As and a C and will study Law at Cardiff University.

Ten students attained three or more A* or A grades, including school captain Will Faulkner with an A* and two As, James Conning with threes A*s and one A and Ria Brombley gained one A* and three As. 

Will intends to go on to Exeter to read Maths, James will go to Bath to read mechanical engineering and Ria to Imperial College to read medicine. 

Students who studied vocational subjects also enjoyed a 100-per-cent pass rate, while 96 per cent of students gained at least three good passes. 

Headteacher, Beverley Stevens, said, “This is always such a watershed for young people and we’re delighted that so many of our students have been successful in gaining entry to the universities and courses of their choice. Thanks to their hard work, that of their teachers and the support of their families, they have much to celebrate.”
