The visitors lost the toss and were made to field on a good wicket that was sure to provide plenty of runs.

And so it proved despite Berkshire batsman Harry Stephens being caught behind in the first over for a duck off the bowling of Callum Gregory.

Tim Alldis came to the crease and put on a partnership of 154 with Steve Naylor – despite surviving a big catch opportunity when he skied one on 20 runs.

Alldis eventually fell to Max Uttley for 82, but Gareth Harte then put on another big partnership with star man Naylor as they scored a further 126 runs to take the hosts to 280.

Naylor was eventually dismissed by Dan Marles for a superb knock of 108 and the bowler then took the wicket of Ben Tyler just moments later.

Harte was still in magnificent form though and he reached 111 not out before Datchet declared on 354-4.

Just as it had done last week, Finch’s innings got off to the worst possible start as they lost their three opening batsmen for five runs combined.

Andrew House, Matt Jones and Marles were all caught behind and suddenly the target was a draw.

Billy Rodgers (56) and Dan Lincoln (60) provided consolidation as they frustrated the Datchet attack that had sensed a routine victory after their early blitz.

A slow, steady partnership of 135 developed before both were dismissed in quick succession by Harte (3-37).

This gave Datchet renewed hope of victory but Simon Bell (33no) and Max Stevenson (38no) were equally as stubborn and ensured Finch ended on 235-5 and took a well-deserved draw from the contest.

l FINCHAMPSTEAD 2nds had a much easier day in Thames Valley League Division 2a as they ran out comfortable nine-wicket winners against Tring Park.

Park batted first and were well placed at 96-2 before collapsing against the spin of Wes Healis (4-37) and James Woodford (5-27) to be all out for 149.

Tom Burrows led the reply and his unbeaten 88 saw Finch home with nine wickets to spare.

l FINCHAMPSTEAD 3rds suffered a dramatic defeat at Cove 3rds in Division 3a.

The visitors batted first and Matt Eldrige (77) and Ian Rose (38*) helped Finch post 219-7.

However, a four off the final ball saw Cove end on 223-8 to grab victory.

l FINCHAMPSTEAD 4ths were dominant winners as they hosted North Maidenhead 3rds in Division 7a.

Ahmed Tuney (38) helped Finch post 200-7 and the visitors were skittled out for just 31 in reply.

Ben Cole posted magnificent figures of 7-10 as he ripped through the North Maidenhead attack.
