Jack and the Beanstalk will be the big production being put on by the Crowthorne Amateur Theatrical Society (CATS) this winter and they are throwing open the auditions to anyone and everyone interested in treading the boards.

Auditions are being held in the Methodist Church Hall in Dukes Ride from 8pm on Wednesday, September 3. All the roles are up for grabs, so if you fancy turning your hand to the extravagent Dame Trott or stomping about as Blunderbuss the Giant, or even Daisy the cow, then do not be shy.

Trudi Hartwell, the society’s publicity officer, said: “We haven’t cast any of the roles yet and you don’t need to have any real past experience, it really is open to everyone. There’s quite a bit of singing and dancing – we use the term ‘dancing’ loosely – but we just have a good time.” There is the opportunity to be involved as much or as little as you like, with non-speaking and background cast roles up for grabs too.

Jobs helping with costumes, building and scenery are also open for anyone wanting to lend a hand and help produce CATS’s ambitious performances.

Established in 1978, CATS embraces a philosophy that an amateur company need not stage amateur shows, and the society claims it ‘always strives’ to stage the best possible performances and have fun at the same time.
