A FUN day organised by a 20-year-old with cystic fibrosis was a ‘great success’, say his family.

Jamie Fuller and brother Grant organised the fantastic fun day in Bracknell on Sunday and raised £2,053 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Gym instructor Jamie suffers from the debilitating condition and was forced to miss a family holiday to America in May after being told insurance would cost £8,500 if he travelled with an oxygen tank.

In a move branded ‘ridiculous’ by his mother Bridget Collier, the insurance bill meant she and Jamie were forced to stay at home.

“We’d had the holiday planned for months,” she said: “Then the insurance bill came back to us and we just couldn’t afford it. People at the trust have supported us and they were horrified to hear about it.” Despite the difficulties he faces, Jamie set on raising as much money as possible for the trust through the fun day. Supported by friends, the family put on a mini-football tournament, velcro wall and bouncy castle for everyone to enjoy on Sunday at Bracknell Hockey Club, Birch Hill Recreation Ground. They raised money for the trust which offers support to those suffering from the illness and helps fund further research in the hopes of one day finding a cure.

The day included raffles, a tombola and quizzes.

Ms Collier said: “The day went really well. We had 36 stalls of games and refreshments and managed to raise so much money for the charity.

“It was fairly quiet, but the people that did turn up spent money which is what matters and we had so much support from everyone who helped us organise the raffles and tombolas.” Jamie managed to attend the day, though is unfortunately now back in hospital, but has said: “Even though Cystic Fibrosis makes you fall, you fight it and bounce back to make yourself that much stronger each time. I am more determined than ever not to let cystic fibrosis get the better of me.” Cystic Fibrosis is a life-shortening condition and only half of those with the illness celebrate their 40th birthday.

Jamie himself constantly fights chest infections and has had major surgery to ease serious lung problems.

Ms Collier wants to thank the long list of people who helped make the day a success, a full list is available online at www.cfcharityfete.co.uk.
