A POTENTIAL site has been identified for the new secondary school in the Arborfield Garrison development.

Wokingham Borough Council say it is ‘on track’ to deliver the new school by September 2016.

The school will be built as part of the major development taking place at the Garrison site after the military base there is closed in 2015.

Executive member for children’s services Cllr Charlotte Haitham Taylor said: “This progress on the location is exciting news. We need the school to be easy to reach on foot and bicycle as well as by car and public transport and believe this site could provide that access.

“But there is a lot more to the school than the location and we will now be working closely with local parents on crucial issues such as the ethos, curriculum, staffing and general character of the school in order to make sure it is a place that pupils are proud to attend and teachers are excited to teach at.” A Parent Reference Group has been set up to guide key decisions on the schools development and wider public meetings will also be held to give all local people the chance to be involved and informed of its progress.
