More than 20 poppies have been installed on roundabouts and major junctions across Bracknell Forest to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Britain declaring war on Germany on Monday.

The 6ft-high red flowers were installed last week and are set to stay until at least Armistice Day, the anniversary of the end of the First World War, on November 11.

The fibre-glass poppies, commissioned by Bracknell Forest Council at a cost of £500 each, were built by Bracknell architectural and engineering firm ATOM.

Cllr Tony Virgo hopes the flowers will feature annually in the town.

He said: “The poppies have really caught the public’s imagination and people just like quirky things.

“Roundabouts are the best way to display them and it shows Bracknell is doing something for the anniversary.” One poppy will remain in South Hill Park as a work of art.
