Selena Share, from Great Hollands, is to shave her hair off on Friday, August 8, to raise money in aid of Thames Hospice.

The haircut will take place at the Great Hollands Community Centre, in The Square, where the 14-year-old has also helped organise a fun day to raise yet more money.

The Easthampstead Park School pupil said: “My mum’s best friend died when she was only in her 30s in 2005.

“She had cancer and she was cared for at the hospice, that’s why I wanted to do it. You want to try and make a difference for people and I want to give something back to the hospice.” The fun day will feature a host of activities for the whole family including stalls selling goods, cake decorating and a raffle with prizes including tickets to Cadbury World.

Selena is hoping to raise £500 from the sponsored head shave and is already over halfway there.

Thames Hospice has a day centre in Ascot and a hospice in Windsor.

Meanwhile eight-year-old Easthampstead girl Amelia Duncombe has had her hair cut for charity after being inspired by Warfield youngster Evie Shallom, who has Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

The youngster had seven inches cut off her locks on Monday at Marc Antoni hairdressers in Princess Square – the length required to make a wig for a child who has lost their hair due to cancer.

She has raised £465 so far for children’s cancer charity The Little Princess Trust through donations from friends, family, Facebook community group People Help The People and £50 donations from Duncan Yeardley Estate Agents and Balti King curry house.

Her mum Jennifer said: “I am so lucky that all my children are healthy but they understand that some people are not so lucky.

“Amelia has such a big heart and when I suggested to her that she could donate her lovely long hair to a child who needs a wig due to cancer treatment, she agreed without a thought. I am so proud of her for doing this and hope that others will consider doing the same.” To donate to Amelia’s fundraising page, visit https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/amelia, and to donate to Selena’s, go to www.justgiving.com/selena-share
