AN ANNUAL art extravaganza will open this week.

Wokingham Art Society is holding its 59th annual exhibition and sale of artwork at the St Paul’s Parish Rooms, in Reading Road, Wokingham, from Saturday.

About 100 exhibitors from the society will show off their work, which ranges from paintings and ceramics to glasswork and jewellery with the majority of pieces up for sale. Society member Annet Pullen said: “We are all really looking forward to it and just getting inside and setting up really.

“What makes the show almost unique is that you can take home straight away the work you buy and then that is replaced with another piece of work by one of the society members so it is a constantly changing exhibition that will never be the same each time you come back.

“Parents bringing children, can sit them down at an area we have set aside for them to do their own artwork while their parents can have a look around.” The exhibition runs until Saturday, August 9, and is open daily from 10am-5.30pm and until 8pm on Thursdays.

Wokingham town mayor Cllr Martin Bishop will officially open the exhibition on Friday night.

Admission to the show is free and car parking and refreshments will be available. For information, go to www.wokingham artsociety.org.uk For pictures from the exhibition on Friday, see next week’s News.
