GREEN-fingered youngsters have gone from planting to profit in a nationwide first with the help of a supermarket giant.
The children of the gardening club at Owlsmoor Primary School, in Sandhurst, visited the Waitrose store, in Yorktown Road, on Friday last week, to sell the produce they had grown at their school from seeds donated by the company.
The youngsters became the first in the country to complete Waitrose’s Grow and Sell scheme when they manned a stall at the Sandhurst supermarket to sell their produce, which included carrots, cabbages and courgettes.
Nick Buss, school caretaker who runs the gardening club, said: “We got the seeds back in March so we had just enough time to grow them, harvest them last week and then sell them before the end of term.
“The children absolutely loved it, they really did. They had great fun and they learned something, which is always nice!” The children made £90 from selling the produce which will be used to buy more seeds and gardening tools for the gardening club.
