The £1.5m project to move the Loddon Bridge Park and Ride to Winnersh Triangle station was due to be completed by the autumn.

But the move will now not be completed until the winter after Winnersh Triangle’s new owner carried out a review of the site.

The existing park and ride next to the Showcase Cinema, off the A329, is regularly closed due to flooding and has cost Reading and Wokingham borough councils £100,0000 a year each in losses.

It is hoped the project will move forward once Reading Borough Council put the building contract for the works out to tender.

Wokingham Borough Council leader Cllr Keith Baker is assuring potential users of the scheme that it will re-open before Christmas, and said: “My understanding is that the new owners have completed their review and everything is fine.

“It’s perfectly reasonable for them to slow things down to review the site they have just bought. I believe Reading Borough Council is about to issue the tender for the construction work. We are moving forward again.” Wokingham Borough Council owns Loddon Bridge park and ride but both councils run the service, and the project is being funded by the Government’s Local Sustainable Transport Fund.

Cllr Baker added: “We will guarantee continuity of a service in that area. We have to do it before Christmas and we will look for every opportunity to start the construction process.”
