TRIBUTES have been paid to an inspirational former Owlsmoor Primary School teacher who “touched so many people’s lives”.

Family, friends and former pupils are clubbing together to raise thousands of pounds in memory of Scott Gillard, who died following a heart problem last month, aged 58.

The popular football coach taught PE at Owlsmoor and also Maiden Erleigh School during his career.

Mr Gillard’s family is raising money for the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance, which came to his rescue four years ago following a bicycle accident and was present again on the day he died.

The JustGiving page has already attracted £2,160.74 from 105 donations.

In a touching tribute on the page, the family said he was an “amazing” husband, father and grandfather.

They added: “We are going to miss him more than any words can possibly express. We are more than aware that Scott touched so many people’s lives.” Donating to the cause, Linda Bold added: “He was one of the nicest men you could ever meet. He made going to school worth bothering about. I will miss him deeply.” Owlsmoor head-teacher Liz Cole described Mr Gillard as a “special” teacher and said the school is looking into planting a memorial tree. She added: “I think the fact that so many people have contributed so quickly is a good indication of what a good teacher he was and how he impacted on people’s lives.

“Children have lots of teachers, not all of them memorable, but he has clearly stuck with people and it’s obvious that he was quite special.” To donate, visit www.justgiving.com/Scott-Gillard
