Volunteer workers are preparing to turn out in force this weekend at Bracknell Rugby Club.

Dozens of volunteers are expected at the club’s Lily Hill Park site with paint brushes, brooms and screwdrivers in hand as part of the Rugby Football Union’s annual drive to improve facilities at local clubs.

And new recruits are being asked to turn up to help out at 10.30am on either day.

The main target for this year’s revamp is the clubhouse veranda with a complete renewal of the decking planned.

The materials have been funded by a £500 grant under the NatWest sponsored Rugbyforce scheme as well as a £900 donation by former Bracknell town mayor Alvin Finch, who raised money for the club in his year of office during 2013-14. Work will start on Saturday morning from 10.30am to 4pm after England’s Third Test outing against the All Blacks in New Zealand – a game that can be watched at the club.

Work on Sunday will also start from 10.30am.

Club executive committee member Pete Mably said: “It promises to be a great weekend.

“It’s a chance to socialise but also gives members the opportunity to make a real contribution to the welfare of their club. We just hope the weather plays ball “And that England can kick it all off on the right note by beating the All Blacks!” Anyone willing to help out should turn up at 10.30am on Saturday or Sunday.
