Among the activities was a series of events at Downshire Golf Complex, in Easthampstead Park, Bracknell.

Golfers were offered a free bucket of balls for the practice range and there were also free lessons on offer for people hoping to be the next Rory McIlroy.

Brett Nicholls, chief executive of Get Berkshire Active said: “The week helps enthuse people to become more active and try new sports.

“We are delighted a range of clubs and organisations signed up and saw this is as a perfect opportunity for local people to try a new sport or just become more active.” Other venues to open their doors were Dinton Pastures Country Park, in Hurst, where youngsters took the chance to try out kayaking.

Crowthorne Rugby Club also invited people along to two free training sessions on Tuesday and Thursday, while a session encouraging women to take up netball was held at Ascot Heath School, in Rhododendron Walk.

The sessions were designed for all ages and for sporty and non-sporty individuals and also included climbing, tennis, volleyball, disability archery and martial arts. The campaign took place between Saturday, May 24, and Sunday, June 1.
