THOUSANDS of people took advantage of the bank holiday sunshine by visiting the Winkfield May fair.

Families took part in carnival games, carousel rides, swing boats and could even come face-to-face with farmyard animals at the fair at Carnation Hall on Monday.

The event was opened by Reading FC players Chris Gunter and Garath McCleary.

The fair was in aid of four-year-old Zakk Burks, from South Ascot who has cerebral palsy.

He needs £20,000 to pay for physiotherapy following a life-changing operation to be carried out in America in July.

More than £40,000 has already been raised to pay for the operation, which could enable Zakk to walk with crutches.

Zakk’s mum Melanie Burks said: “I just want to say thank you to the community and everyone for coming along.

“I hope everyone had an amazing time and I also want to say thank you to the organisers too.” For the full story and for a four-page picture special of pictures from May fairs covering Wokingham, Winkfield and Crowthorne, pick up a copy of this week's Bracknell News. Out now, only 70p.
