WORKERS traded their suits for boots at the inaugural Berkshire Corporate Charity Football Tournament.

The competition took place at Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre and marked the official launch of the venue’s new 3G pitches. Nine teams from across Berkshire participated in the round-robin format which saw solicitors, engineers and IT professionals all go head to head.

Foster Wheeler, from Reading, and Wokingham Borough Council qualified for the final in style after recording five victories, edging out strong challenges from Bayer and Reading-based law firm Field Seymour Parkes.

In a tense finale Phil McLoughlin’s clinical finish proved decisive for Foster Wheeler, who despite a valiant effort from the council team, held on to be crowned County Champions leaving captain James Hill to hold aloft the Cup. Get Berkshire Active said money raised from the event will be used to offer disadvantaged groups sport and exercise opportunities.
