A POPULAR carnival will return to Crowthorne this summer, and its organisers are calling on residents to get involved.

Crowthorne Carnival, a biennial event, will be held from Saturday, July 5, to Monday, July 14.

The action-packed 10 days will feature many events that both residents and visitors can get involved in.

Carnival committee chairman Ken Newland said: “We hope everyone will come along and have a fun day.

“It’s a very enjoyable event and a great warmth comes from it.” The carnival will kick with its procession on Saturday, July 5, with floats parading through the village.

A fete will be held at the Morgan Recreation Ground later the same day, and will feature a variety of stalls, fairground rides and music.

A concert will round off the evening at 7.45pm at Crowthorne Parish Hall.

On Monday, July 7, primary schools from across the area will take part in a music festival at Wellington College from 6.30pm.

The Royal British Legion (RBL) will also hold a bingo night as part of the carnival at its hall in Wellington Road on the same night at 7.30pm.

The RBL will also host a line dancing evening on Wednesday, July 9, while a quiz night will be held on Friday, July 11, but a host has not yet been decided.

On Saturday, July 12, lots of family events will be happening, including a treasure hunt and a parody of hit TV show Strictly Come Dancing, called Strictly Crowthorne.

A flower festival will also run from Saturday, July 12, to Monday, July 14, at St John’s Parish Church.

People can also enter a number of competitions that the carnival will run throughout July.

These are a front garden competition, a darts tournament, a pool competition and a contest to see which of Crowthorne’s businesses has the best shop window.

Crowthorne Primary School girls aged between eight-11 can nominate themselves to be the carnival’s princess, who will lead the procession on the first day of the carnival.
