A mum has raised nearly £3,000 for charity after running almost 2,000 miles over the course of four years.

Canan Flack, 41, from Wokingham, first embarked upon her challenge in 2010, in support of Erin Selby, 10, who suffers from Rett Syndrome.

This neurological disorder affects the brain with many suffers being unable to speak, and in many cases walk.

Mum of two Mrs Flack – who works as an assistant store manager for Specsavers in Reading – ran the Reading Half Marathon in 2010 for children’s charity Reverse Rett, and has continued every year since.

Including training, she estimates she has clocked up about 2,000 miles, and completed the 13.1 miles in just two hours 11 minutes.

Erin is the daughter of her friend Eylem Selby, from Maidenhead, and Mrs Flack said: “My friend was overwhelmed when I told her I would be doing it for the charity. She always comes down from Maidenhead with Erin on race-day who greets me at the finish and she wears my medal, that’s my treat. Four years ago I couldn’t have imagined running one mile let alone 13.1 miles, but it’s for such a deserving cause and one that’s very close to my heart that I give it my all.

“I’ve raised more money than I ever thought I could.

“I’m so grateful for all the support from people, and I hope I can make a difference to children suffering from Rett, and help support further research into this little known condition.” Supported by family and friends, she ran this year’s Green Park challenge, a 2.8km route, with her own daughter Alara, 12, who attends The Holt School, Wokingham.

Mrs Flack added her son, Lucas, seven, who attends Hawthorns Primary in Woosehill, wants to run the Green Park challenge with them next year. To donate visit www.justgiving.com/Canan-Alara-Flack
