Police are currently investigating an alled rape which is reported to have taken place yesterday (5/4) in Swinley Forest, Bracknell.

The victim, a girl under the age of 16, has reported that she was alone in the woods at around 3pm when a man unknown to her, who she had been speaking to, raped her.

She has taken herself to safety following the rape and reported it to a member of public who contacted the police.

A wide area of the woods, around the reported location of the offence, has been cordoned off to allow forensic investigations to take place. The scene watch is likely to remain in place for the rest of the day.

Investigating Officer, Det Ch Insp Rebecca Mears said: “The report of rape is always taken extremely seriously by Thames Valley Police and investigated thoroughly.

“The victim is a young person and we are investigating the report with the sensitivity and care the circumstances require. She is currently being attended by specially trained officers.

“At this stage our officers are still gathering information to establish what exactly has taken place and we would encourage any members of the public who have information they feel may be relevant, to contact the police as soon as possible.” Ch Insp David Gilbert, LPA Commander for Bracknell said: “I would like to reassure the public that we have additional patrols in the area and are informing members of public to be cautious and attentive as they usually would be in that type area, which is a public woodland used by dog-walkers, runners and other members of the public.

“Should any local residents be concerned, please do approach any of our neighbourhood team officers who will be able to offer assistance and reassurance.” Anyone with information should contact Det Sgt Johnathan Groenen of Maidenhead Force CID via the Thames Valley Police Enquiry Centre on 101.
