Bracknell's residents are urged to have their say over neighbourhood plan

The town council has put together a questionnaire asking what type of development residents want in the town.

Although it is Bracknell Forest Council that makes planning decision, councillors insist that having a formal neighbourhood plan would give designated areas more protection from development.

It also aims to make sure the right infrastructure is put in place for the future, and new houses and facilities are built in the best place.

Cllr Chris Turrell, leader of Bracknell Town Council, said: “It is important to get up-to-date feedback from residents, and what we have received so far is really helpful. We will be using it to put together a draft plan for consultation.” An initial public consultation on which geographical area the plan should cover was completed last December.

The survey concluded it should cover the same area looked after by Bracknell Town Council, with sub-areas matching the town wards.

The plan would work alongside the framework of Bracknell Forest Council’s Site Allocations Local Plan (SALP) and other local development plans which set out future house building in the borough.  The town council’s neighbourhood plan will look to support local business and organisations in the town, as well as to enhance quality of life and facilities provided for those living and working in Bracknell.  Cllr Turrell added: “People often tell us how much they like Bracknell’s green space. This is an opportunity to give it more protection, and for residents to say what else they want to see protected or provided. We would be delighted to hear from anyone wanting to get involved.” The questionnaire will be available for completion until May. Residents in that area will vote on it tomorrow (Thursday) after the blueprint was examined by an independent planning inspector.
