MORE than 800 people attended a jobs fair to get careers advice and find out about vacancies.

They visited stalls run by about 50 employers and training organisations at the event, organised by Job Centre Plus at Bracknell and Wokingham College last Wednesday.

Some companies had vacancies and used the fair as a way to attract potential new recruits.

Naomi Lomax, from the Allegis Group recruitment firm, said: “We’ve actually got jobs that we are looking to fill and have managed to put some people, from here, forward to apply for the positions. It’s been a great success. We’ve had lots of interest.” As well as the Armed Forces, there were repre-sentatives of firms including Timpson, Hilton Hotels and Network Rail. The Co-operative held mock interviews and Thames Water had an interactive board detailing how water is supplied to homes.

One of those who attended the jobs fair, Evelyn Nicklin, 22, from Bracknell, said: “I’ve been looking at apprenticeships and also wanted to see what else there is about. The day has been really useful as I now realise I have more options open to me than what I previously thought.” The jobs fair, held at the college’s campus in Church Road, Bracknell, was opened by the mayor of Wokingham borough, Cllr UllaKarin Clark.
