David Laws MP, Minister of State for Schools, wrote to Uplands Primary in Sandhurst, to congratulate staff and pupils on its most recent set of Key Stage Two results.

The improvement in pupils’ performance between Key Stage One and Two put the school in the top 250 in the country for progress between Key Stage One and Two.

Mr Laws wrote “Your school is exceptionally effective in educating its pupils” and added it provides pupils with a good start in life and a “strong springboard in to secondary education”.

Uplands was the only school in Bracknell Forest where 100% of children achieved the benchmark grade of level four, or higher, in all three areas tested – in reading, writing and maths last year.

Uplands Primary School headteacher Anita Warwick said: “We’re extremely pleased that we have been recognised as one of the top 250 performing schools in the country.

“The whole school community continually works hard to achieve good results and so the letter is testament that hard work.” The Key Stage Two results in Bracknell Forest last year showed progress in reading, writing and maths – bucking the national trend, which saw results fall in England.

The 2013 results showed the percentage of children achieving level four or above in reading, writing and maths in the borough is above the national average at 78%, compared with 75% nationally and 76% in the borough in 2012.

Cllr Gareth Barnard, Bracknell Forest Council’s executive member for children, young people and learning, said: “Congratulations to all the staff, pupils and parents at Uplands Primary School, being officially recognised as one of the country’s top performing schools is wonderful news and the recognition is much deserved.”
