Jealott’s Hill Community Landshare has received the RHS National Certificate Of Distinction, following a nomination by the Thames and Chilterns in Bloom inspectors.
Six acres of land at Jealott’s Hill in Warfield are set aside for residents and groups in the Bracknell area to grow fruit and vegetables.
The site – donated by plant research firm Sygenta – includes an orchard and half acre vineyard.
It has given residents the chance to work as a team engaging in horticultural activities and since the project began last year, 100 fruit trees have been planted.
A deer and rabbit fence has been installed, along with disabled toilets and facilities.
A new polytunnel, where vegetables will be grown, has been opened. About 75 people attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony as part of an event on Wednesday, September 4, to celebrate the Community Landshare project.
The scheme is a partnership comprising Bracknell Forest Homes, Bracknell Forest Voluntary Action, Bracknell Town Council and Warfield Parish Council.
