Bracknell firefighters were called to a burning car in the early hours of this morning [Friday].

Crews rushed to the scene at 4.45am, where a navy blue Mercedes was on fire on the hard shoulder of the A329(M).

The driver, in his 40s, had managed to get out of the car and disconnected the gas supply to the engine in the process.

The firefighters spent an hour and a half tackling the blaze, situated in between the Coppid Beach roundabout junction and the slip road for the M4.

The Bracknell crew used breathing appartus and a hosereel to put the fire out, but the car had been completely gutted.

Police were also at the scene, assisting with road safety and the removal of the vehicle.

The man escaped unhurt, but the cause of the fire is unknown.
