WOKINGHAM residents are being invited to give their views about the borough's highways and transport services.

The postal survey will be sent to a sample 4,500 residents in the borough and for the first time people receiving the questionnaire can opt to complete it online via a URL link printed on it.

It is part of a national survey carried out for councils across the country by the Highways and Transport Network and the South West Highway Service Improvement group.

Matt Davey, head of highways and transport at Wokingham Borough Council, said: "There are clear benefits to conducting a public survey in this way.

"This isn't about producing a league table to champion one geographical area over another.

"It's about better understanding customer views and working together to create the best possible services for local people." Last year more than 800 residents in the borough completed the survey, which equates to an 18 per cent response rate - one of the highest in the country among those councils taking part.

The survey is voluntary, and takes about 20 minutes to complete.

Its questions cover all aspects of local highway and transport services, from the condition of roads and footways to the quality of local bus services.

People have until the end of July to complete the survey.
