A MONTH of Sunday markets will aim to draw punters in to Wokingham later this year.

The Super Sundays concept will also mean live music and entertainment is on show in the Market Place throughout July.

An artisan market will be held on July 7, and a childrens and families is the theme for the week after. A local food market takes place on July 21, followed by an international food event the following Sunday.

In a survey completed by about 300 people, 52% said they would look round a Sunday market at least every fortnight. A further 23% said they would use a Sunday market once a month.

Lynda Vaughan, who runs The Wine Place and is a member of the Wokingham Town Team, has helped to organise the trial month.

She said: "Wokingham is an area with high employment so it is not easy to go shopping during the weekdays but about 75% of people said they would come to a Sunday market at least once a month.

"We need traders and people to help organise these markets. If you're a retailer and open on Sunday's it is a chance to promote that as well. If you don't open on Sunday I'd encourage you to open on these days." The Town Team is also holding a fashion show on Thursday, May 23, and a fashion week until the following Sunday. Shops which sell clothes and other accessories will be offering discount cards for the 11 days.
