ECO-WARRIORS at Bracknell Forest Homes (BFH) have scooped an award for reducing the company's impact on the environment.

The housing provider picked up a silver award from the Sustainable Homes Index For Tomorrow (SHIFT), raising its standards from bronze status last year.

Caroline Titley, chief executive at BFH, said the company's environmental impact is a "growing concern" and she wants BFH to deliver its services in an "efficient and sustainable way" so there is "little wastage" or impact on the environment.

She added: "Over the past year we have improved our systems, reducing paper usage, increasing recycling, using different ways of working and providing more information, so we are delighted this has been recognised by SHIFT.

"We have also made improvements in customers' homes by installing insulation, new windows and doors, and heating systems as well as providing energy saving tips, all of which can reduce utility bills and impact on the environment.

"We have a programme to provide new homes for local people and we are incorporating sustainable methods and techniques in our designs." Chris Withnall, assets and business development manager at BFH, picked up the award at the 2012 Homes Conference Dinner last month.
