THE estranged husband of Dawn Clinton unexpectedly admitted her murder when he appeared in court for his retrial today (Monday).
Jon-Jaques Clinton, 45, from Bracknell, will be sentenced at Reading Crown Court tomorrow (Tuesday).
He had been sentenced to 26 years after being found guilty in May 2011 of murdering the mother of two when she visited their former martial home in Inchwood, Birch Hill, to collect paperwork on November 15, 2010. Mrs Clinton died from head injuries and asphyxia.
However in January this year the Lord Chief Justice, Lord Judge, ruled at the Criminal Court of Appeal the jury should have been given the option to consider the new legal defence of "loss of control" and a verdict of manslaughter and this prompted a retrial which had began today but was brought to a halt following Clinton's guilty plea.
Clinton's legal team had argued he "lost control" after his wife told him she had had other sexual partners.
