A STEAM engine is set to pick up passengers at Bracknell Railway Station this summer - the first steam train to stop at the town for more than 60 years.

The Cathedrals Express steam train day trip, operated by company Steam Dreams, will go to Minehead in Somerset via the West Somerset Railway in the Quantock Hills on Thursday, June 21.

The train is rostered to be hauled by 4464 Bittern, the sister engine to the record-breaking steam locomotive Mallard.

Marcus Robertson, chairman of The Cathedrals Express, said: "It is always really exciting to bring a steam train to a new route.

"And the idea of travelling in style, being looked after by our friendly and efficient staff while enjoying superb food and drink, just seems to strike a chord with the public." Passengers joining the train at Bracknell will be able to choose from four travel options: two full dining options (Pullman Style in restored 1950s wood-panelled coaches and Premier Dining), First Class and Premium Standard.

The train will depart from Bracknell at approximately 10.20am and is due to return about 9.10pm. Prices range from 99 to 225 per person and bookings can be made by contacting The Cathedrals Express on 01483 209888 or www.cathedralsexpress.co.uk
