SOMETIMES it is hard to find the words to thank that special person who has brightened up your life - so show you care by nominating them for a Pride of Bracknell Award.

The awards are supported by the News, Bracknell Regeneration Partnership (BRP), Bracknell and Wokingham College, plus local businesses and organisations, and they celebrate those special people who go out of their way to help others.

Former award winner Colin Antink, 19, who writes a monthly column for the News, often sticking up for those who he says, like him, are differently abled, is encouraging readers to nominate their heroes. He said: "There are so many people out there who go through their lives helping others, either with gestures or just kind words who make such a difference.

"Don't hold back, as if you think enough of them even to think about a nomination, then they must deserve it! Even if they don't get it, they will know someone out there appreciates all they do and that is a wonderful feeling, trust me."

Categories recognise individuals who do their best for retail, sport, education, the environment and the community. Awards also recognise achievements by employees and businesses, children whose bravery inspires others, and those who have done something amazing for someone else.

Shortlisted nominees will be invited to an awards ceremony at Bracknell and Wokingham College on Friday, April 27.
