POLICE are following up information from the public suggesting forest fires may have been deliberately started.

They have released on bail until next month two 14-year-old boys arrested yesterday (Tuesday) on suspicion of arson - but it is not yet clear from the evidence seized what the location of the suspected arson is and so it has not been definitively linked to Swinley Forest.

Chief Inspector Jon Goosey, Deputy Commander for Bracknell Local Police Area, said: "We have a number of lines of enquiry under way and two juveniles have been arrested and released on bail.

"At this stage, we continue to work closely with Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service to determine the cause of the fires and are investigating a number of lines of inquiry, including information provided from members of the public regarding the possibility the fire was deliberately set.

"I would appeal to anyone with any information which may help the police and fire service with our investigations into the cause of the fire to contact us." Firefighters continue to fights the fires, which took hold at 1pm on Monday.

Anyone with any information about the fire should contact the Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505 or call the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
