THE regeneration dream is still alive, was the positive message Bracknell's Borough Mayor delivered at his civic reception.

During an upbeat evening when councillors, their partners and guests mingled at Wellington College in Crowthorne, Cllr Bob Edger spoke of his confidence in the multi-million pound Bracknell regeneration project.

In his speech he commented: "When I came into the Mayor's office I thought the ultimate dream was within my grasp... but sadly this has not been and I leave that honour to my successor - or his or her successor.

"However, it is going to happen. The will, enthusiasm and motivation is still alive and I hope work will start very soon, if only in a small way. I personally have great hope for the future of the borough and I hope you have the same." Among the guests welcomed by the Mayor and his mayoress Sigi at the black tie event were The Bishop of Reading, the Rt Reverend Stephen Cottrell; representatives of volunteer organisations and schools; Brigadier Michael Aris CBE, deputy lieutenant of the Royal County of Berkshire; Dr Carolyn Boulter, High Sheriff of the Royal County of Berkshire; Bracknell MP Andrew MacKay; mayors from neighbouring local authorities; and Bracknell Forest Council members and staff.

The annual reception is held to celebrate those who have contributed to the borough during the mayor's year in office.

Chief Inspector Simon Bowden, Area Commander for Bracknell Forest, praised Cllr Edger for his work during his term of office, which ends in May.
