Broadmoor tamed by leaders
By John O'Sullivan
Newbury Stags 30, Broadmoor Staff 5
BROADMOOR gave unbeaten Berks, Bucks & Oxon Premier Division leaders Newbury Stags a stern test on Saturday before eventually going down 30-5.
The Crowthorne-based side enjoyed the lion’s share of possession in the opening exchanges, but were eventually undone by their impressive opponents, who have now won nine straight games.
Stags fly-half Darren Lynch was in inspired form as his side took the lead through tries from Charles Seward and Drew Mansbridge. The man of the match slotted both conversions and a penalty to put the hosts 17-0 in front at the break.
The league leaders ran in two more tries in the second half, which saw Broadmoor finally rewarded for their efforts when Ben Yates crossed for the visitors.
Another positive for Staff came from Ross Yates, who put in his most effective and mature performance of the season at fly-half.
Veteran prop Jimmy Noak also had a stand-out game as Broadmoor matched the Stags in the scrum.
