Byron Walton will be up against an old friend at SYCOB on Saturday.

BRACKNELL Town boss Byron Walton is hoping to put one over an old mate this Saturday when he takes his side to Beaconsfield SYCOB.

Walton will be in the opposing dugout to good friend Jamie Jarvis and it will be the first time the pair have gone head to head in their managerial careers.

SYCOB boss Jarvis, who lives in Bracknell, and Walton go back a long way, but the Robins manager insists there will be no room for sentiment come 3pm on Saturday.

He said: “It will be a very tough game over there. Beaconsfield have won all of their games apart from their first one of the season and are showing they are a decent side.

“I know Jamie very well, we go back a long way and he’s done ever so well, especially considering this is his first managerial job in football.

“He got them promoted last season and now they’re carrying that form on so we will have to be ready for a very difficult game when we go there.”

Walton added: “I expect them to be very similar to us. They will work very hard and will fight for every ball.

“It will be a very competitive game and could go either way on the day. We’ve had a decent enough start so far and hopefully we can get better and better.

“We haven’t won away from home yet but I’m not really worried about that. Both away games we’ve played so far we could have, and probably should have, got something from, so if we keep playing like that the results will come.”

Meanwhile, Walton confirmed that he will be without the services of Jamie Clarke for up to six week after the defender dislocated his shoulder in last Saturday’s FA Cup clash with Bicester Town.

Clarke will join Bradley Edmunds on the sidelines for this weekend’s trip to SYCOB but they are the only players the Bracknell boss will be missing.

Walton has revealed that he is still in the market for a new striker but is refusing to be rushed despite Dean Thomas’ departure from Larges Lane last week.

He said: “I’m not going to panic. I’ve got Errol Telemaque and Ian Harvey who play up front and Adam Crittenden as well.

“I am looking to get someone in but he needs to be the right player for the club.”

Meanwhile, Walton has praised his players for the way they handled last weekend’s FA Cup clash with Bicester Town.

The Hellenic Premier Division side made it difficult for Bracknell for almost an hour until Ryan McIntosh broke the deadlock in fine style before efforts from Sean Grant and Telemaque sealed a 3-0 win.

The Robins boss said: “We were on top for most of the game and I thought we always looked comfortable.

“But we had to stay patient. A game like that is all about your attitude and I thought the players did ever so well.

“Bicester tried very hard and put up a good battle. They were strong and there’s always a chance of letting in a goal against those sort of sides so we had to concentrate for 90 minutes.

“If they’d gone in front they would have been hard to beat but we stayed focused and in the end it was relatively comfortable for us.”

Bracknell’s win saw them move into the first qualifying round of the FA Cup where they will face Oxford City at Larges Lane on Saturday, September 13.

Bracknell: Taylor, Dexter, Woodruffe, Baker, Buck, Newby, Edwards, Hamilton, Harvey, McIntosh, Telemaque. Subs: Grant, Kennedy, Crittenden.

* In other news at Larges Lane, Bracknell’s young star Michael Buck has returned from a week long spell at Blue Square Premier side Stevenage Borough.

The 19-year-old joined up with the Hertfordshire outfit and impressed enough during his seven-day spell that the club have asked him to come back so they can have another look.

Walton said: “They want to have another look at him later in the season.

“They didn’t do a lot of training while he was there as it was a Bank Holiday weekend but by all accounts he still did ever so well.

“It’s good for him to see what it’s like to do a bit of full-time training because I see him playing at that level in the future.”
