Robins edge thriller
By Chales Watts
Keith Newby converts his penalty in Bracknell's 3-2 win against Windsor and Eton on Monday.
BRACKNELL bounced back from Saturday’s defeat at Taunton in fine style as they edged a five-goal thriller with Berkshire rivals Windsor and Eton on Monday.
The win maintains the Robins’ 100 per cent start to the season at Larges Lane and moves them comfortably into a mid-table position after four games.
Manager Byron Walton was delighted with the display and praised the way his players performed against one of the pre-season favourites for the Division One South and West title.
He said: “I thought we won comfortably to be honest. It was certainly a fair result and we probably should have won by more than one goal.
“What made it even better was that we had players like Errol Telemaque missing up front so it was good to see other players coming in and playing so well.
“We moved Ian Harvey up front and he was excellent. It’s really pleasing to see some young, local lads coming through and performing for the first team.
“Ideally you want as many local people playing as you can. We’ve got the likes of Ian, Adam Kennedy and Michael Buck who have all come through the reserve team recently and I’m sure another couple will follow this year.”
After a tight first quarter Bracknell edged in front when Keith Newby notched his third goal of the season from the penalty spot.
Martin Williams ensured Windsor went in level at the break but strikes from Sean Grant and Ben Edwards after the re-start put the Robins firmly in command.
Windsor did pull one back with three minutes remaining when Ben Porter netted but Bracknell held on for a deserved win.
Bracknell: Taylor, Dexter, Woodruffe, Baker, Buck, Newby, Hamilton, Edwards, McIntosh, Grant, Harvey. Subs used: Kennedy, Clarke.
