Walton happy with responce
By Charles Watts
Bracknell have high hopes for new signing Errol Telemaque (right).
BRACKNELL Town boss Byron Walton says he is pleased with the way his players have responded to the criticism he aimed at them last week.
Walton revealed in last Thursday’s News that he was disappointed with a number of his squad and warned them that he would bring in new faces if things didn’t improve.
Since then the Robins have drawn 2-2 at Egham Town, 1-1 with Badshot Lea and on Tuesday evening they suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat at the hands of Conference South side Maidenhead United.
Despite the scoreline, however, Walton was pleased with what he saw from his side and with just over a week before the start of the Southern League campaign he is confident they will be well prepared for their opening game at Bridgwater Town.
He said: “I think as a squad we’re starting to look quite fit. Now we’ve got just over a week to get everyone back from injury in time for the first league game.
“I wasn’t pleased last week with what I’d seen from a lot of the players but in the last three games I don’t think there has been any lack of application by anyone. The things we’ve still got to work on now we can sort out on the training pitch.
“We’re moving in the right direction. We played very well in the second half against Egham and must have had 75 per cent of the play against Badshot Lea. When you look at the 4-0 scoreline on Tuesday it may look like we got stuffed but it wasn’t like that.”
Walton added: “We had a lot of the play against Maidenhead who are a very good team.
“I thought we played well but we gave away sloppy goals. We created just as much as them so there were a lot of positives.
“The central midfield of Keith Newbie and Rory Jenkins played really well and young Ian Harvey showed he is back to how he was last season.”
Directly after Tuesday night’s game Walton snapped up former Yeading striker Errol Telemaque who he feels will make a big impact at Larges Lane.
Telemaque was playing alongside Dennis Fenemore in a new look attack which showed glimpses of what could be a decent partnership.
Walton does have other options up front, however, and he feels there will be plenty of goals in his squad this season.
He said: “Errol signing will be a major thing for this club. He’s got a lot of quality and will score a lot of goals for us. Who his partner will be I don’t know yet.
“Dennis may sign but we have Dean Thomas here already and I think he will link up well with Errol and we can also play Ian Harvey up front.”
