Browning eager to return
By Charles Watts
Sandhurst Town boss Pete Browning can't wait for the new season to begin.
SANDHURST Town boss Pete Browning admits he can’t wait for pre-season training to get under way in a fortnight’s time.
The Fizzers return on July 1 and will be looking to build on the success they had in the second half of last season.
Browning’s men were struggling at Christmas and looked certainties for relegation until a superb run saw them finish the Combined Counties League campaign in 16th spot.
Those final few months of the season gave everyone at Yorktown Road a huge boost and the Sandhurst boss admits it played a big part in most of the squad returning for another crack at the CCL.
He said: “Pretty much all of the boys who finished the season with us have committed themselves for next year.
“They’re happy to stay because of what happened in the second half of the season. We freshened things up a bit and it really turned things around.
“Now we want to make sure we start this campaign in a lot better fashion. Myself, Jon Underwood and Steve Stairs have been very busy during the summer and things are looking very promising.
“We’ve had meetings, been talking to players and I have to say I’m very encouraged by the type of people who are showing an interest in joining us for pre-season training.”
That training begins on July 1 and Browning is keen to point out that anyone can attend if they feel they are up to the standard of the Combined Counties League.
The Fizzers will hold their sessions at Yorktown Road from July 1 and they begin at 7pm. Browning added: “Any trialists would be welcome as well as any of our reserve team players.”
Sandhurst’s first pre-season friendly will be on July 12 at Hanworth Villa and they also have dates set up with Bisley and Reading Town before their league campaign gets underway on August 9.
In other news from Yorktown Road it has been announced that Paul Toye will be the new reserve team manager.
