Litter campaign picks up
By Judith Green
RESIDENTS are being invited to take part in a national campaign to help keep the country clean.
The Big Tidy Up is set to take place this month with events planned for South Hill Park and Sandy Lane Primary School.
Bracknell Forest Council is supporting the campaign by aiming to keep the borough clean and green and is able to lend a limited number of litter grabbers to residents.
Litter pickers, who are registered at www.thebigtidyup.org, will be sent tabard bibs, refuse sacks, a guide, posters to help promote the clean up and stickers. The campaign, which aims to collect 500,000 bags of litter across the country over the four-week blitz, is open to all, including individuals, businesses, schools and community groups.
Regular litter picks already take place across the borough, including Birch Hill and Winkfield.
Bracknell Forset Council has been supporting this work by investing an extra £100,000 in environmental improvements.
These include deep cleansing of the borough’s neighbourhood shopping areas, plus graffiti removal and refreshing paintwork where necessary. Councillor Dorothy Hayes, Bracknell Forest’s executive member for the environment, said: “There is already a lot of good work going on across the borough, with residents taking part in regular litter picks to improve their local areas.
“If you want to improve your area, get in touch and keep Bracknell Forest tidy.”
