Do the art walk around town
By Judith Green
GYM-FEARING folk have relished the chance to get fit in a friendly environment strictly off-limits to mirrors and men.
Women have been flocking to the newly-opened Gymophobics female-only gym which promises to provide an antidote to traditional health clubs and their emphasis on youth, weight training and high impact exercise.
But a few muscley hunks were allowed in when the Warfield branch formally opened on Wednesday, with members of Bracknell Rugby Club as special guests.
Fitness instructor Sue Sheldon said: “It was a very successful day and we got a lot of new members signing up.
“We had lots of visiting consultants come along who advised clients on nutrition and we had a manicurist in and a reiki expert which everyone really enjoyed.”
The gym, at Moss End Garden Centre, Warfield, features a 30 minute circuit complete with air resistance machines which take the place of treadmills and weights.
There are no mirrors which helps make Gymophobics far less intimidating than regular gyms and Sue said potential clients have been impressed with this alternative, yet effective way of getting fit. She said: “It’s specifically designed for gymophobics, as the name suggests – ladies who are averse to going to the gym.
“The circuit is only 30 minutes long so it’s impossible to get bored and it’s also a great way of meeting people.”
