Families breathe easy with garden
By Lauren Everitt
A COMMUNITY scheme has brought a group of residents together to create a green open space.
Residents of Orbit Close in Finchampstead and the Gorse Ride Residents Association (GRA), have landscaped an area, in the middle of the close, into a garden.
Children planted a variety of shrubs and bulbs and a tree in the garden on Saturday.
A grant from the National Lottery’s Breathing Places programme of £5,465, and a donation of £216 from Luckley-Oakfield School, has helped the close bring back some community spirit.
Steve Bowers, chairman of GRA, said: “The idea was to make the project a community project and get everybody involved.
“We want everybody to have a sense of pride in where they live and a desire to develop the community.”
Mr Bowers also said he hoped people would respect and not vandalise the area as it was what local people had worked for and created.
Community development worker Claire Denham said: “It has been a really positive project and I am so impressed with all the residents.
“They have all been fabulous with the work.”
