A WEEK of community neighbourhood projects, involving more than 300 volunteers, culminated in a family festival on Saturday.

Hope 08 ended with a party in the park opposite South Hill Park mansion, with a wide variety of entertainment on offer.

The fun, which attracted over 2,000 people, included a bouncy castle, obstacle course and mega slide, as well as live music, entertainment and an illusionist.

Andy Bagwell, Warfield Churches manager, said: “We wanted to cater for as many different groups as possible and we also had some live entertainment on the stage including presentations from churches.

“We want people to think about the church and God in a light way.”

He added: “I am absolutely delighted as we have had a huge amount of response from everyone involved in the events.”

Also on offer was the chance to be pampered with manicures, foot spas and nail art, and youngsters were able to take part in a five-a-side football tournament and play on the Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Wii.

Hope 08 was launched over the August bank holiday weekend with a number of people giving up some of their time to clean up neighbourhoods and befriend others.

They spent the whole of last week working on projects around the area.

A tea party for the deaf and hard of hearing and a playground renovation in Stoney Road, Bracknell, were just two of the 52 projects and events that took place during the week.

Other community projects included refurbishing four homes and gardens, painting and decorating, litter picking and removing graffiti.

And on Thursday volunteers set to work at Garth Hill College painting fences.

Bracknell Forest Voluntary Action has worked with Hope 08 Bracknell, the Bracknell Family Centre, Kerith Community Church, Easthampstead Baptist Church and the Warfield Churches, to carry out a range of activities aimed at bringing caring Christian values to communities.

Sarah-Louise Rand said: “Everything has been really good and has been very well organised.

“The event is perfect as it brings children of all ages together.”

The evening finished with some live music with the final of battle of the bands.
