Supermarket gets backing

SANDHURST councillors have backed plans to expand an established store in the town.

Members of the Town Council’s Planning Committee recommended approval of the plans submitted by Marks and Spencer’s for their store in Marshall Road.

The plans will involve building an extension to the existing retail store and cutting the number of spaces in the car park.

Councillors recommended approval to Bracknell Forest Borough Council on the basis that Marks and Spencer has been an important presence in the town for some time providing many employment opportunities within the community.

The committee believed the plans to change the front of the store and the extension would be an improvement but they expressed concerns over the potential reduction in the number of car parking spaces, particularly during the peak Christmas period.

I\'m really glad that the council \"expressed concerns\" about the impact of the reduction of car-parking spaces during the Christmas period. Along with the concerns, I hope that both M&S and the council are looking at real plans and options to alleviate the congestion that the reduced number of spaces will, no doubt, create at peak periods.
