Classical music and fireworks at Sandhurst
By Lauren Everitt
THE UK’s most stunning outdoor spectacular is set to return with a bang with a thrilling firework display and magical Son et Lumiere performance.
Critically acclaimed classical singer Hayley Westenra is set to join stars from the screen, stage and world of music, at a Bond themed Music On Fire! extravaganza at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst.
Music On Fire! celebrates the centenary of former Sandhurst Officer Cadet, Ian Fleming, author of the world famous James Bond novels and raises money for the Army Benevolent Fund (ABF) which provides financial and practical to soldiers and their families.
Hayley, 21, will perform alongside a 100-piece military orchestra and 100-voice choir, and also sing a duet with Jonathan Ansell, a former member of the band G4.
She said: “It’s going to be really exciting performing at Sandhurst as I get to sing a different repertoire and try something I don’t usually do by performing a Bond song.
“The show is set in a grand setting and it should be a lot of fun to take part in.”
The event, on from September 18-20, will also feature a night-time parachute drop from The Red Devils and The Black Knights, and narration from well-known voices including Rowan Atkinson, Joanna Lumley and Sir Trevor McDonald.
Hayley, who lives in London, added: “I haven’t supported the ABF before but I am aware of the great work that the charity manages to achieve.
“I have done a number of events where I have had the opportunity to meet soldiers and war veterans and I think a lot of their work goes unnoticed.
“The public are aware that there are people out there fighting for our country and our freedom and I don’t think people realise how much strain soldiers and their families go through.”
“I think this is a fantastic and hugely worthwhile charity to support.”
Gates open at 4pm with the show beginning at 7.30pm and guests are invited to picnic on the lawn during the performance.
Tickets cost from £21 and can be booked by telephone on 0844 847 1657 or 0871 297 0077 or online at www.musiconfire.com
